New Zealand first, using glass fittings to innovatively solve space restraints
The first time EVA toughened laminated printed glass fins have
been used in NZ, showcasing how innovative use of glass and
complimentary fittings can be used to create a unique facade.
This was also the first time AGA SP227/66 fittings have been
used to support glass fins and only the second large project the
new Metro Frameless Glass PF150 has been used.
The new PF150 has a modern architectural look which is both
contemporary in design and very functional with optional single or
double point fixing to decks, stairways and Balustrades at 400
maximum centres. Essential in this project as it was the
solution to the lack of space for fixing. The fitting of the
balustrades and fins to the structural floor slab was very cramped
and complex.
Metro GlassTech provided this new architectural fitting solution
and then engineered the glass and fin connection using Finite
Element Analysis (FEA) modelling.
Product testing results and FEA modelling data was also used on
the development of the balustrades, which allowed simplification of
the fixings to the building facade.
Leuschke Group, the project architects say, "The extensive use
of glass, floor to ceiling sliders, clear balustrades and fritted
louvers modulated to echo the rhythms of the adjoining historic
building combine to give a unique purpose unobtainable in any other
material."
