Club Tower
Christchurch’s Club Tower, the first five star green rating building in the South Island, successfully showcases smart design maximising the use of glass throughout a project to promote green building
The Club Tower project held its challenges with its five star
rating restrictions meaning all products used had to be recorded
and all sealants had to have VOC ratings supplied - however Metro
GlassTech Christchurch stepped up to the challenge by providing all
the glass and glazing to meet the five star green rating
requirements for the twelve story office building.
The exterior facade utilised insulation from GlassTech double
glazing, which achieved energy ratings by combining 6mm Synergy
Green Low E Glass/12mm air space/6mm Clear Glass.
Internally glass balustrades were used to maximise light and
allow natural light to stream across the building. Finishing
touches to the project also used colourbak glass throughout the
toilets, also as wall partitions and even a low iron glass with
crystal film to add an element of colour and design to the floating
glass reception of the office building.
Client, Latitude Group has commended Metro GlassTech on their
role in the glass and glazing of this green star project
commenting, "This building is a standout feature in a high profile
part of Central Christchurch and has received a number of accolades
from architects including ADNZ National Special Project Award 2008
and Sustainability Award 2009."
The project was also the first structurally glazed job Metro
GlassTech Christchurch has done. The large double glazed units
presented handling and movement problems, which resulted in
innovative solution finding and utilising the skills and experience
within Metro GlassTech to ensure all potential glazing challenges
where meet and addressed. Once systems were put into place the
glazing of the glass into frames supplied by Alutech went smoothly
due to the preparation.
